Mindful Eating
A food journal that asks how you felt, not just what you ate.

Overview
A gentle, non-restrictive food journaling app that pairs meals with mood and hunger check-ins instead of calorie targets.
Problem
Calorie-first tracking apps can reinforce restrictive habits. The brief called for a tool that builds self-awareness around eating without turning food into a number to hit or miss.
Solution
We replaced calorie counters with short, optional check-ins (mood, hunger, fullness) and used the Gemini API to turn a week of entries into a plain-language reflection rather than a score.
Outcome
Delivered a calm, judgment-free journaling app with AI reflections that testers described as noticeably different from typical diet-tracking tools.
Key features
Meal logging with photo, mood and hunger-level tags
AI-assisted reflection prompts after each entry
Weekly patterns view instead of daily calorie counts
Offline-first journal stored locally with Hive
Gentle reminder system with adjustable tone and frequency
Design process
Warm, soft-edged UI with muted gold tones to avoid the clinical, alarm-red styling common in diet apps. Every screen was reviewed against a simple rule: does this element judge the user.
Development process
Built fully offline-first with Hive as the local store, syncing to Firebase when available. Gemini API calls run on a debounce so reflections only generate once a week's entries are stable.
